With this list of memorization songs, I have taken a huge burden off your shoulders, I promise! If you play these songs with your kids and practice them, say once a day (singing them a few times each) during each unit on these topics, your kids will know; the planets, continents, oceans, months of the year, and the days of the week! Mine did, and we use these songs to help us all the time. If for example, I ask my child, “What comes after March?” My kids sometimes sing their little tunes they’ve learned to help them memorize things, and then they give me the answer. They don’t always sing them out loud, but I can see that they are using their songs, as their little bodies bounce around to the beat of them. It’s awesome!
When we started homeschooling our kids a few years ago I had a lot of fun adding extra fun to their curriculum. We decided to go with a boxed curriculum which we love. As many homeschooling parents find, you can get a lot of work done in very little time homeschooling.
Since we were getting so much done so quickly I learned fast that I had room in our day to add to it what I wanted our children to learn more about.
One of our favorite additions we have added to our curriculum are songs that are made for the purpose of helping children remember specific things. Apparently, these are a type of mnemonic ( the first m is silent), according to what I could find on google. Mnemonic is a technique used to help you retain information.
Well let me tell you, my kids are retaining information!
I also must admit I feel a smidge smarter every time we learn a new song for
memorization. I’ll never forget the names of the planets, and their order in our solar system. EEEK! WIN!
It’s awesome to be able to ask your 4-year-old, “Hey kiddo how many continents are there and what are their names?” I know my kids love impressing their grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins with their awesome knowledge!
Throughout each lesson, I searched youtube for the easiest songs, that simply provided the names of what I wanted my kids to learn, without any added information to get in the way. I looked for what I felt my kids would easily be able to memorize & saved these in the “Watch Later” section of my youtube account.
It worked out awesome to push play on these, sing it with my kids the first time, then play it a few more times while I got some homeschool prep done. My kids thought I was pretty cool too. So there is that!!!
I promise I found the best songs for simply remembering these topics
by list, without any added confusing facts. I found these songs after watching many myself during my unit preparations throughout the years. I am telling you I saved you some pain here!
These are the best for simply memorizing the names in list order for each of the topics I have bellow.
So now for our top favorite memorization songs:
I am excited for you and your kids to give these songs a whirl! Tell me how it goes!!!
If you have found any songs like these, please do tell!!!
